The 52 Churches Project: Church List

One thing became clear when I started to look for churches to visit for The 52 Churches Project: there are plenty. One study said that there are approximately 300,000+ churches in the United States alone.

Why These Particular Churches?

  • Proximity: The majority of churches were chosen simply because they're in the Richmond Metro area. That said, I've physically visited many churches out of the Richmond Metro area including several churches in Texas and South Carolina, and I've attended a few churches (one as far away as Alaska) via live stream.
  • Reputation: Some of the churches I've chosen to visit are those I've heard about for years and have wanted to visit.
  • Recommendations: As I'm speaking to friends about this project, I'm getting recommendations.
  • Revisit: Most churches I've chosen are churches I've never been to, though I plan to revisit those where I was on staff or had attended in the past.
  • Theological Variety: Though all of the churches I'll be visiting are Christian, I've tried to include churches that represent various denominations. I will definitely miss many.
